If you’re considering having a pergola system installed, then you’ll need to ensure that it is structurally engineered for high wind zones and complies with the new building code of 2020.

Undercover Industries pergola systems have recently been given structural engineering certification, meaning they now comply with the new building code.

If you’re not in the building industry, it can be hard to know what regulations, rules and codes to comply with, but you’re in the right hands with Undercover Industries. If you’re after the perfect extension to complete your home that ticks all the boxes, you’re in the right place.

What’s the new building code update?

As of 1 September 2020, the New Zealand Building Code outlined new rules – and ones that you can benefit from if you’re looking at installing a new pergola. Now, pergolas, verandas, porches, and carports can be extended in size without a building consent, but only if the correct statements have been issued. This is of great benefit to you, meaning that you don’t have to go through the often tedious ins and outs of obtaining a building consent. This can only go ahead however if the design has been carried out or reviewed by a chartered professional engineer with a PS1 statement issued, or a Licensed Building Practitioner has carried out or supervised the design and construction.

Our Pergola Systems are Now Certified

Undercover Industries have you covered, and are very proud to have a fully customisable, fully engineered Aluminium Pergolas Systems that are certified for high wind zones. These systems are designed and approved by a structural engineer, including a world-class hidden bracket system. You can rest assured you will comply with the new code and that you are buying the very best locally-made, beautifully custom-crafted and structurally sound Aluminium Pergola System – with the PS1 producer statement to prove it.

Why the high wind zone?

When it comes to pergolas, you want to ensure you’re purchasing a top-quality and durable system, to ensure it will weather all outdoor conditions and won’t rust. Undercover Pergola systems are made from top-grade structural aluminium to ensure they are built for high wind zone and coastal conditions. Your home is your biggest asset, so you want it to last the years and ensure you won’t have to replace your installation before time is due. Many outdoor areas are exposed to the wind from all directions, and even not there are other harsh weather conditions to consider, so it’s pivotal to use high-quality materials for longevity.

Are there any other benefits?

Undercover Pergolas systems are made and manufactured in Mount Maunganui by a local team of fabrication engineers. A significant benefit of purchasing local is that they are made by locals for local conditions – so you know that what you’re getting is exactly right for your environment. Only the highest-grade roofing materials are used that provide 99.9% protection from harmful UV rays, meaning they are ideal for all seasons – rain, hail, winds or shine. Custom aluminium gutters and flashing ensure the canopy is as watertight as possible and extra protective blinds can be added also.

How do I make sure I’m making the right choice?

Ask about PS1 statements and ensure that the materials used will endure through harsh weather conditions and winds. Buying locally is not only good for the community, but it also ensures you’re getting materials and labour from someone who knows your environment and local regulations well.
